MOUNTAIN SHADOWS RESORT
Mountain Shadows Wayanad – Heart of Nature
For my wife’s birthday, I wanted something truly special — and Mountain Shadows in Wayanad turned out to be the perfect choice. I booked their Romantic Pool Villa way back in May for a September stay. Along with that, I booked a candlelight dinner and a flower bed decoration. Honestly, every penny felt worth it.
The Journey
The drive itself was beautiful, especially the stretch along the Banasura Sagar Dam. The last 3 km were off-road, but it was manageable for any type of car. At the entrance, we parked and were greeted by a buggy that carried us and our luggage to the reception at the top of the property. From here, every corner seemed to offer a breathtaking view of the lake.
The Welcome
Mountain Shadows has three villa types: Luxury Lake View, Luxury Jacuzzi, and Romantic Pool Villa.
As soon as we arrived, the staff was waiting at the entrance to welcome us in traditional Kerala style. We were seated in the lobby, handed a cup of delicious coffee, and the check-in was smooth and relaxed. Sitting there, sipping coffee while gazing out at the lake, already felt like a vacation.
The team gave us a quick orientation about the property and activities like trekking and nature walks. Unfortunately, since we were only staying one night, we couldn’t explore those — instead, we decided to make the most of the villa and property itself.
The Villa
The buggy dropped us off at our villa, and stepping in felt magical. The room was spacious, clean, and designed with a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort. The bed was placed right in the center, facing the balcony, giving us uninterrupted views of the lake.
Since it was a birthday surprise, the staff had gone all out — a flower bed decoration with “Happy Birthday” spelled out in leaves and roses. It was warm and thoughtful. They also offered complimentary cakes, both in the villa and after dinner — a sweet gesture that made the day even more special.
The private infinity pool was the highlight — large, refreshing, and overlooking the Banasura Dam and mountains. Right next to it, the washroom area was beautifully designed in a modern style, adding to the villa’s luxurious vibe.
Beyond the private pool, the property also has a huge common infinity pool, perfect for those who want to soak in the view with others.
High Tea & Activities
From 5–6 PM, the property hosts high tea at their own little tea shop facing the lake. We enjoyed tea and snacks while taking in the views.
Just next to the tea shop is an outdoor games area with basketball, football, and cricket courts, while near the reception you’ll find indoor games like billiards, table tennis, chess, archery, air hockey, foosball, and even mini golf.
Later, we took bicycles and went for a short ride along the lake — the property has dedicated cycling paths, which was a fun way to explore.
Dinner & Birthday Celebration
At 8:30 PM, we had our candlelight dinner set up in the Glasshouse next to the common infinity pool. The ambiance was magical.
The dinner itself was a set menu with unlimited dishes, and every dish was well-prepared and delicious. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate.
Morning & Breakfast
At night, we did spot a few snails around our private pool and wash area, but it wasn’t a problem at all — more like a reminder that we were in the middle of nature.
The next morning, breakfast was served at the restaurant below the reception near the infinity pool. It was a buffet spread with a variety of Indian dishes, plus live counters for eggs and dosas. A hearty, satisfying start to the day.
